“Accidental Homeschooler” Sound Like You?
What is a Homeschooler “accidental”?
While some families know early on that they want to Homeschool, others arrive a little “accidentally”. These are families who had initially put their children in traditional schools. Over time, perhaps due to the environment, the curriculum or relations with the other students or teachers, they become convinced that schools available are unacceptable.
Although many are people of strong faith, they begin to homeschool, not by religious or philosophical reasons, but as problem solvers trying to do the best for their children.
“I never thought I would homeschool, but after trying my son on various different schools, we were at the end of our intelligence. Our son was unhappy in school and do evil. After a day particularly bad when he came home in tears and humiliated, we agree to try homeschooling for the rest of the third degree. This was two years ago and has really worked for us. “
We coined the term “accidental Homeschooler” to describe those beginning Homeschool motivated by a process of elimination, not because Homeschooling is your primary choice. There was a private conversation that made us think about these families and process suddenly jumping into homeschooling.
A mother who had called for information about our curriculum, it seemed important to explain to us that: “I don’t really believe in homeschooling and I don’t want to do it, but I have to because of my children and schools intelligently worked.” Uh, right.
We noticed that she was not the only person who followed a bumpy path conflict for homeschooling. It is surprising that rarely hear people start homeschooling in some months or weeks of planning. But, we hear daily families who decided to homeschool and want to start immediately.
Although we can’t find any data, Time4Learning believes that about half of homeschoolers current traditional schools started. Thus, with some fear over generalizing, here are some features of homeschoolers accidental that we saw:
